Now that we are safely past our average last frost date it’s time to get those veggie and flower starts in the ground. We still have a good supply of starter plants, including veggies, herbs, annual flowers and perennials.
If you’re getting ready to plant it’s always a good idea to freshen up the soil. The Organic Garden Soil from Ferti-lome is one of our favorites to mix into the ground or raised beds to give your plants a boost. It’s a dark, rich, peat moss mixed with earthworm castings and kelp meal. For clay soils, mixing in cotton burr compost is very effective. It is acidified to counter our high alkaline soil. Don’t forget to water your transplants with root stimulator to help prevent transplant shock and get the roots off to a fast start.
If you have unwanted grass creeping into your flower beds, spray with Ferti-lome over the top. This product will kill grasses without hurting your plants. For well established, tougher to kill grasses it can take 2 applications about a week apart
