Our History

Our History

Fox's 1930's

1968-1981

2017-Present

In 1968, Earl and Aileen were ready to retire and sold the garden shop to their daughter and her husband, Barbara and Howard Waye. Howard, Barbara, and their four kids moved back to Pueblo from California to run the business. They worked night and day to ensure the store would be a lasting endeavor. The winter months can be challenging in the garden business and they tried several different businesses to try and fill the void including a craft store and a pet shop complete with monkeys. Eventually, Barbara received schooling to become a florist and started a successful floral business that operated into the mid 80’s. Their hard work paid off and the business continued to grow, expanding into neighboring units of the same building which included a cafe and pool hall.

Although they still graciously help out in the busy spring time, Gary and Lillian passed the business down to Fox’s fourth generation of owner-operators in 2017. Their two sons, Tyler and Todd, grew up in the family business and have over 25 years of combined experience. We feel proud and blessed to be able to carry Fox’s Garden Supply into and beyond it's 70th year.

Fox's 1981 Lillian

1930-1968

1981-2017

Fox’s started out as a vegetable and fruit stand in 1930's Blende by Aleine and Earl Fox. In the 1940's they built Fox’s Fruit and Vegetable Market approximately where the Blende Dollar Tree stands today. The 1950’s brought the move to our current location on Santa Fe Ave with the building of a grocery store and garden shop.

In 1981, Howard and Barbara sold Fox’s to their son and daughter-in-law Gary and Lillian Waye. Gary and Lillian continued running the business, as well as enjoying all the fun and challenges a business can be. They grew the business to what it is today, adding grounds behind the building and creating much more space for a larger variety of plants. Gary was, and still is, the ultimate people person, forming close relationships with many of his customers. Being pre-internet times, Gary’s office walls were lined with any gardening books, encyclopedia or technical manual he could get his hands on. He was passionate about learning as much as he could in order to better help his customers with their problems. He established Fox’s as a trusted source for Puebloans’ lawn and garden needs. In the 90’s, Gary started the popular weekly garden tips article in the newspaper which we still run today with his guidance.
