The snowball bushes are blooming all over town right now, and they look amazing. If you haven’t noticed, look for the fairly large bushes with large white ball shaped blooms. They’re in nearly every neighborhood. These bushes are easy to care for, very hardy and get up to 12 feet tall and wide. We have plenty of them in stock if you want to add one to your landscape.

Spring blooming bushes like the snowball bush, lilacs and forsythia are best trimmed up right when they’re done blooming. Next year they will bloom on the growth they add this year, so pruning them in the fall would cost you some color next spring.

Hummingbirds and orioles have been in town for a while and they’re looking for nectar. We have a lot of different feeders to choose from to feed these interesting birds. Hummingbirds also love visiting our hanging baskets at the store. They’re favorites are petunias, fuschias and calibrachoa (million bells).

We have a new and improved website which includes a section for these weekly garden tips. If you can’t remember something you’ve read from weeks past or want to make sure you didn’t miss one, just go to

We have only heard of minor damage on bedding plants, but trees were slightly damaged. Trim any branches that are broken and spray a small amount of pruning sealer on the tree's fresh cut. Just a reminder that if you applied a pre-emergence in mid March or April, it’s time to reapply this product to keep from getting weeds sprouting up later in the summer. It is also time to reapply fertilizer to the lawn to help it keep that deep green color and to help thicken up the roots. We still have a large selection of bedding plants. We received a large shipment of tomatoes, peppers plus many melons and cucumbers. Stop by and see the flowers that are available. Also please note that we will be closed Monday for Memorial Day as well as Mondays moving forward. Have a great weekend.

Spring is springing and the temperatures are looking good, if only the wind would stop blowing. Most lawns are starting to look pretty green. If yours still has a few yellow patches, wait a couple more weeks before worrying too much.
