Garden Tips from Fox's

New Home for Fox's Garden Tips

Ever since Gary started his garden tips over 20 years ago, they had been placed in the Pueblo Chieftain. We appreciate the strong following these ads garnered over the years and still maintain today. However, in our opinion over the last several years our "local" paper has felt less and less "local." As of Spring 2024 we have decided to move our Garden Tips here to our website. There are a few sporadic posts from the past already here, but we will now be making weekly additions. We thank you for your interest and are looking forward to another year of lawn and garden care in Pueblo. For those of you curious about Gary, you may not see him in the store as often, but he still helps us out a lot during Spring and contributes to these Gardening Tips.

We have only heard of minor damage on bedding plants, but trees were slightly damaged. Trim any branches that are broken and spray a small amount of pruning sealer on the tree's fresh cut. Just a reminder that if you applied a pre-emergence in mid March or April, it’s time to reapply this product to keep from getting weeds sprouting up later in the summer. It is also time to reapply fertilizer to the lawn to help it keep that deep green color and to help thicken up the roots. We still have a large selection of bedding plants. We received a large shipment of tomatoes, peppers plus many melons and cucumbers. Stop by and see the flowers that are available. Also please note that we will be closed Monday for Memorial Day as well as Mondays moving forward. Have a great weekend.

Spring is springing and the temperatures are looking good, if only the wind would stop blowing. Most lawns are starting to look pretty green. If yours still has a few yellow patches, wait a couple more weeks before worrying too much.

Our greenhouse is starting to fill up with veggie plants! We have a good selection of tomatoes and peppers in 6-packs. Annual flowers are starting to show up as well, including quite a few hanging baskets already...

Now is a good time to start thinking about fertilizing your trees and shrubs. Jirdon Tree & Shrub Fertilizer is our favorite because it has a great formula for our region and encourages strong and steady growth...

Well after telling you last week we weren’t getting our trees in until late April, we got surprised by our largest order of trees showing up early. This order includes almost all of the fruit trees we will be getting this year...
