GARY'S GARDEN TIPS 4//9//14
Our spring bulbs are here! It's a little early to set them out just yet, but don't wait too long to get a nice selection.
Dahlias, Gladiolas, Cannas, and Lilies are always showy flowers that are easy to grow. Prepare the soil with compost or peat moss before planting and mix in a handful of bone meal to help the roots get a good start.
In my opinion, there is only one type of strawberry....Delicious. This includes all strawberries as far as I am concerned, but we sell the Fort Laramie variety. These are ever-bearing that peak into early summer, then produce in the fall, but not as much. They are very hardy, and can be planted in hanging baskets, pots, strawberry jars, and in a strawberry bed. They will do best in an acidic soil such as Ferti-Lome Ultimate potting Mix. Why wait for a miracle when you can have it now!
If you want to stop fruit production on crabapples, or any other fruiting tree, be sure to spray Florel when the tree is in 75% blossom.
We have pansies and violas that can be planted now. Our perennials are looking very nice!
