GARY'S GARDEN TIPS // MARCH 13, 2014
It's a good time to start an asparagus bed. They prefer full or partial sunny areas. Soil that has good drainage is important. With 2 year roots, you won't be able to start harvesting until next year. Asparagus that is planted from seed takes three years before it's mature enough to produce!
We are now open on Monday. The extra day will continue until Memorial Day weekend.
Gold finches are here, though their bright yellw color isn't showing just yet. They prefer thistle seed in their feeders This will be sure to keep them around when they do start showing their bright yellow colors.
"Apply High-Yield Turf, Ornamental Weed, and Grass Stopper to open areas or rocked areas." This prevents weed seeds from germinating. With the moisture and warm weather we have had, weeds could get an early start. Don't apply this product in areas where you will be seeding.
