GARY'S GARDEN TIPS // JULY 19, 2013
Hummingbirds have been very active in the area. They are attracted to numerous types of flowers and vines. Fuchsia, Lantana, Columbine are a few of the flowers, and Trumpet vine and honeysuckle are vines they seem to enjoy. If you don't have any flowers that attract them, or want to observe them from a closer location, then keep a hummingbird feeder full of nectar and maybe you'll entice them to come feed.
We have numerous feeders to choose from and instant nectar to keep them coming back.
Japanese beetes ar starting to chew many plants in the yard. Traps are a good method of reducing populations. Try to hang them about 10-15 feet from the plants they are chewing on. Spraying with Carbaryl will slow down their activity. Do not use Carbaryl on Virginia Creeper (wood vine). Use Malathon or Hi Yield Systemic for non-edibles.
Just a reminder to feed your hanging baskets and container garden with Age Old Bloom, Super Bloom, or Ferti-Lome Hanging Basket Fetilizer
