GARY'S GARDEN TIPS // JUNE 29, 2013
June bugs have arrived and are actively flying and laying eggs for the white grub. Damage from the whit grubs won't be noticed until August & September. Application of "Grub Free Zone" now will prevent damage later on. It's important to apply this product now so they don't have time to get larger and do damage. Milky Spore is also a product we carry that works well. It's biological and will last as long as 10-years. These products will also help control the larvae from the Japanese beetle which usually starts flying 1-2 weeks after the June bug.
Be sure to mulch your plants now to keep soil moisture from evaporating. Mulching also keeps the weeds from germinating as much. Straw, grass clippings, "Soil Prep: newspaper, and weed mat work well. To not use grass clippings that have been treated with weed killers.
If Squash bugs are starting to multiply in your squash and pumpkin plants, use Indoor/Outdoor from Hi Yield. Spray at the base of the plant early in the morning.
