GARY'S GARDEN TIPS // MAY 1, 2013
Many lawns are slow to green and fill in this spring. This is due to the dry winter that we had. Most of the grass will fill in with time. Water deep and wait about one to two weeks to see if these areas start to recover. If not then you might have to re-seed and fertilize lightly to help the recovery.
Our roses are in, and they look very good and healthy. Use a root stimulator when planting, and be sure to prepare the soil to help them to a good start. We will give you a free sample of Bills Rose Food that you can use on the rose two weeks after planting.
Just a reminder to set the peony rings around your plants before they get too tall. These rings can also be used around other plants to protect them from damage.
If you have a shaded area that is difficult to grow grass, then you might try a ground cover. Grass needs at least four hours of sun. We have different types of ground covers that do very well in shade.
Do your potted plants a favor and plant them in "Ultimate Potting Soil".
