Wild grasses are starting to grow in flower beds now. The grass can be controlled by spraying the grass plants with "Over the Top", "Ornamec", or "Grass B Gone". These products will not harm most flowers. One to three applications might be necessary for best control.
Our average last frost in this area is May 10th, so be careful planting some of the tender plants unless you have a way of protecting them. We are starting to fill our greenhouse up with lots of colorful flowers, hanging baskets, and a good selection of vegetables.
After the week's cold temperatures, it looks like we will start warming up, but be cautious. We have a good selection of frost blankets, hot caps, and plant protectors if needed.
Try putting some thistle feed in your bird feeders to attract the gold finches that are in the area.
Some of the ornamental pears lost their blossoms early because of the cold winds. Other spring bloomers seem to be ok, and most fruit trees are looking like they will be producing this year. Be sure to fertilize trees with Jirdon Tree & Shrub Fertilizer.
Spray dandelions with "Weed Free Zone" from Ferti-Lome. Works very fast!
